Oops! It's Next Year

Everyone knows that New Years Resolutions suck and never work. Why do we keep doing them? Let's come up with a trend that actually matters - and everyone will love.

What am I talking about?

What do you and your long-time fans have in common? I mean, besides, well... you know. It's "time"!

You've been together for a long time. You've all changed. Wouldn't it be great to have a time capsule for your fans - and for yourself?

It's not too late. You should start making videos now!

Let me provide a script, tools and instructions for your new yearly video.

First, let's talk about the name. "Oops! It's Next Year" is meant to be a cute title that you can add on the year to. So, for your review of year 2024, you'd title your video "Oops! It's Next Year: 2025".

In the same way that everyone knows that New Years Resolutions fail, they also know that the new year sneaks up on them fast! It's always a surprise.

At least for me it is. I find myself thinking "Oops! I've forgotten to do so many things." And that's one of the reasons that I suggest "Oops" to begin the title.

Prepare to make a 7 minute video

You don't have to commit to the full 7 minutes. If it goes over by a few minutes, that's fine. But, you're going to ask yourself 7 questions. This gives you about a minute per question.

These 7 questions are coming up. Remember, this is a time capsule of you at this time. Share openly and honestly. Make the connection with your fans. And, with your future self.

What you do with the video after this is up to you. But I have a suggestion.

Each platform has its own pricing mechanisms and purchase options; I'm not going to get into that here.

For demonstration purposes, let's imagine that we charge $5 for a premium video, $2 for other videos. The year your video is released, it is priced as a premium video. Other years are priced as a normal video.

If a fan purchases a current premium year video, they should get all previous years for free.

I don't give away free things, Ayron!

Make it a bundle! But, for this to be most effective, you need to get all of the years of your video into your fan's possession. This deepens the connection and makes the premium video more effective, and even more valuable!

I'll give you the script shortly. But here's how to structure the video.

It's your time to have fun! You're making this for your fans, but you're also making it for yourself.

Be the true you. Don't be a robot. Your fans will love it now. You will love it when you look back at it years later!

You may want to show the question on the video while you're answering it. This way, you're still the feature; you don't have to waste time or look down reading them.

Another idea: dress in different clothes and "interview" yourself. This could be a fun way to create a more fun, interactive, and longer video.

Any way you do this, it will be the right way! Just do it.

The Promised Script

The following is an example script that you may use for the "Oops! It's Next Year" video. In fact, these questions weren't only written by me. They were inspired by @oooops__ and a conversation we had about a Vanity Fair Billie Eilish video.

Here's the script. Enjoy!

Hi! It's [YOUR NAME]. It's already [YEAR]! Oops! There's so many things I wanted to do.

I hope you'll join me looking back at my year.

1. How would you describe yourself to new fans?

2. How many fans or followers do you have?

3. What's the biggest thing that happened to you last year?

4. Favorite current musician / band? Favorite current movie / series?

5. What did you want to do last year but couldn't? And will do this year?

6. If last year was an animal, what would it be... and why?

7. What advice would you give your future self?

Woah! I think that's all for now. Thanks so much for reviewing my year with me... this was great!

Whatever your video ends up, share it with your fans! They will appreciate it.

And do it again next year.

And before you know it, the videos will be better, you'll love looking back at them, and your fans will be clambering for more!
